  1. Format. Walk-around, the stage feature, or both back to back.
  2. Run-time. A cocktail hour is not a keynote slot.
  3. Room size. Twelve at a dinner table or 500 at a sales kickoff.
  4. The date. December Saturdays are spoken for early. A Tuesday in February is not.
  5. Travel. Inside the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex, none. Broken Bow and beyond, quoted up front.

Where Sam performs

Plano to Fort Worth, and every suburb between.

Sam is based in Plano and most of his work is in Dallas and the northern suburbs: Frisco, McKinney, Allen, Richardson, Carrollton, and Addison, where the Improv is. Uptown and Las Colinas ballrooms for corporate. Living rooms and backyards across the suburbs for private parties. Southlake and Grapevine for the wedding venues out that way.

Fort Worth, Arlington, Irving, Grand Prairie, Denton, Rockwall, and Mesquite are all inside the Metroplex, which means no travel fee. If the venue has a DFW address, the quote already covers getting there.

Outside DFW, the show still travels. Broken Bow is the most common trip. Travel is added to the quote and stated before you commit, never after.

    Most corporate rooms have the CEO, the interns, and somebody's kids at the same table. The set that plays at a Mercedes-Benz holiday party is the same set that plays at a second-grade birthday, and neither audience notices anything is missing.

  • How many people can actually see it?

    Close-up magic is for twenty people around a table. Put it in front of 300 and the back half sees a man's elbows. Ask which format the room calls for. If the answer is always "whatever you want," keep asking.

  • What do you need from the venue?

    A working magician can tell you in one sentence. For Sam: nothing for walk-around; a 12'×8' clear space, a mic, and a sound check for stage. If the list is long or vague, expect surprises on the day.

  • Do you do a planning call?

    A show that mentions your product, your people, and the thing everyone in the room already knows about the VP lands differently than one that could run in any ballroom in any city. That takes a conversation beforehand, not a form.

  • What happens when the room runs late?

    They always do. Dinner service slips, the award speeches go long, the toast runs twelve minutes. Ask whether the set flexes to 25 minutes if it has to, and whether that costs extra.

  • How far ahead should I book a magician in Dallas?

    Weekends in DFW fill 60 to 90 days out, and corporate holiday parties book further ahead than that. Two to four weeks is usually enough for a house party or a kids' birthday. Last-minute openings happen more than you'd think, so ask.

    Yes. The corporate set is clean comedy, the kids' set is high-energy participation, and family events get a mix. Sam scales the material to who is actually sitting there.

    No. Sam does house calls and works living rooms, restaurants, backyards, and hotel suites without one. When there is a stage, the 25–45 minute feature uses it. Either way he brings his own gear.

    The stage feature runs 25 to 45 minutes. Walk-around close-up runs through a cocktail hour or reception. The kids' show is 35 to 45 minutes. Many corporate events book both formats back to back.
